Senator Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) was recently elected at the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Executive Committee meeting to fill an unexpired vacancy as Immediate Past President. NCSL is the only nationwide organization focused on supporting, connecting and strengthening state legislatures.
“It’s an honor to represent Illinois on the NSCL Executive Committee, which is at the forefront of a variety of legislative issues,” Sen. Althoff said. “Each state is special, but many state governments grapple with the same problems and concerns. Whether it’s learning about innovations in one state that may be applicable elsewhere, or missteps that should be avoided, the NCSL is a great forum for us to learn from one another.”
Sen. Althoff is among the 30 legislators who sit on the NCSL executive committee and the only member from Illinois to serve on the committee. She has worked with NCSL for many years and even served as co-chair for the annual NSCL Legislative Summit that was hosted in Chicago in 2012. In addition to her new role as NCSL Past President, Sen. Althoff also serves as co-chair of the NCSL Executive Committee Task Force on State and Local Taxation.
“NCSL has been instrumental to my growth as a state legislator and leader,” said Sen. Althoff. “It is a privilege to have a role in facilitating bipartisan dialogue with the nation’s 7,383 state lawmakers and 20,000 legislative staffers that NSCL serves, to develop ideas and solutions that strengthens our nation as a whole.”
