Members on the Senate Executive Committee gave their stamp of approval to legislation that would create a universal special license plate in Illinois.
At this time there is a wide range of specialty license plates offered in the Land of Lincoln. Law enforcement officials say that this makes it more difficult to recognize, read and record license plate information when they are out on the state’s roads and highways.
Proponents of HB 1081 say the creation of one universal specialty plate, which would allow decals to be issued to represent the authorized organizations, causes or interests, say this would increase the ease with which law enforcement officials can identify license plate information. It is also argued that a universal special plate would reduce the number of traffic camera or tollway tickets incorrectly sent to the wrong car owner.
