February is National Heart Month. The Illinois Department of Public Health would like to share a schedule of Heart Month activities happening across the state.
Jackson County - Town Square Market (TSM) is hosting a Holistic Heart Health Workshop, February 7 from 2-4 pm. Five local holistic health care professionals will share how lifestyle, diet and supplements can affect your heart health. Participants will learn about, risk factors for heart disease, simple, natural ways to support heart health, receive an information packet, sample heart healthy food, be eligible to win healthy give-aways. Prizes include a free acupuncture treatment, free time on a bio-mat, herbal remedies and more. Advance registration is available through February 5 for $20 at eventbrite.com or Town Square Market. Livingston County – The Livingston County Health Dept. will be discussing the topic of heart month on their February radio show. This will be at Pontiac WJEZ on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 7:45 a.m.
McDonough County – Western Illinois University will be hosting a Go RED Luncheon/Resource Fair on Friday, February 5th, 2016 in the Multi-Cultural Center across from the Student Union. The luncheon will feature health foods catered by WIU Dietetics students. There will also be a resource table set up with information about heart disease. The resource tables will be open from 11:30-noon and 1pm-1:15pm. A brief message will be shared by one of our faculty members who, last January, had a stroke. Beu Health Center will be doing blood pressure checks. Dietetics Dept. will be doing glucose screening.
McHenry County – The McHenry County Department will be coordinating several events for the residents of McHenry County:

McLean County – The St. Patrick Church of Merna in Bloomington will be conducting blood pressure screenings after Masses on the first weekend of February (6th and 7th).
Sangamon County – The Sangamon County Health Department staff will be attending the event at The Dove Conference Center (at Prairie Heart Institute) entitled, " And the Beat Goes On: Heart of a Woman." They will have a table displaying information and other heart health information for women. Event is on 2/10/16 at 6:00 p.m-7:15 p.m.
Tazewell County – The Tazewell County Health Department will be conducting FREE Blood Pressure Checks/Outreach @ Home Show, Peoria Civic Center: Feb 26-28th
Washington County - The Washington County Health Dept. will be offering lab cholesterol and lipid panel screenings at a very reduced rate during February. They will be conducting blood pressure screenings at various churches throughout the month and they will be offering a CPR class for the community.
Whiteside County – The Whiteside County Health Department is working on several community events.
1) Heart Care: Ask the Experts - February 8, 5:00 p.m. Mark your calendar for our annual, FREE Heart Care public event on Monday, February 8 at Giovanni's, 610 N. Bell School Road, in Rockford. Arrive at 5:00 to browse our fascinating heart care exhibits. Our program begins at 6:00 p.m. with a welcome from SwedishAmerican CEO Dr. Bill Gorski. Then Our keynote speaker and noted author, Jeanie Burke, RD will present the "Optimal Health" Plate -- What Color is Your Diet?
