On May 31, the Legislature adjourned regular legislative session. State Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) issued the following statement:
“It’s a sad ending to what could have been a change of course in Illinois. Instead of passing a truly balanced budget with economy boosting reforms, we end another spring session failing the people of Illinois.
“However, it is encouraging that the Senate leaders have agreed to continue budget negotiations over the summer. I hope that we can soon continue our bipartisan efforts to find a compromise solution to our budget impasse that includes reforms before the new fiscal year begins.
“We have a responsibility to our schools, students, and employees to give them the financial assurance they need moving forward. Although we were unable to come together with a solution before the spring session adjournment, I am optimistic we can pass a truly balanced budget in the coming weeks.”
